Oscar Wilde- 'I can resist everything except temptation'
I left the cakes in my university communal studio with plates and forks but with no other incentive to help themselves e.g there were plates and forks to eat the cake after they had made a decision to eat it but no knife to indicate it was ok, they would have to intentionally go get a knife to cut the cake. It was metaphorical for adultry in the sense someone's temptation would result in a void and the cake would never be whole again. Sad really.
My cakes
Using pink icing I wrote my story. I like how the outcome has the warmth feeling you get from home baking whilst being tainted by the story of betrayal. The cake itself is a symbol of temptation whilst the term 'having his cake and eating it' fits almost too well. Extremely pleased with the end result.
Triptych
I started to play around with the layout of the text and decided to keep the same letter case as in Fiona Banners work whilst also adopting her colour choice as the pink immediately links to love, lust, etc. I chose to create a triptych as Dad left leaving three girls at home, my mum, my sister and I.
Fiona Banner
Fiona Banner within her work explores the limitation of words as a form of expression. I really liked the colour of the text against the white background and how she used capitals throughout which in itself implies it is being shouted or loudly spoken in contrast to the topic which often makes people blush at its mere mention.
Bruges
During my project I went to Bruges which is such a hugely inspirational place. I found myself photographing the content of all the shop windows, which were mostly chocolate shops, and felt a connection. It sparked memories of Easter, Christmas, Birthdays etc when it dawned on me that this material evoked feelings from my childhood: what a perfect medium to work in for my project I thought! I brainstormed which edible medium conveyed ideas of 'home', 'family', 'warmth' etc and finally decided on home baking, specifically home made cakes.

Representational Imagery
I started to create my story which reflected all the emotions generated by this project from my point of view at the age I was when it happened. I started to create images which represented the text which could then be combined and layered onto the grounds I had produced. After creating a few images (one of which is shown above) I felt they were flat and didn't convey what I was trying to communicate as my chosen media didn't possess the expressive qualities I wanted for my outcome.
